Residential Recycling

Close the Lid, Keep it Clean!

Make sure all items to be collected are placed inside the cart (not on the ground beside the cart) and that the lid can fully close. When your cart is overfilled, trash spills onto the street, and can result in missed collection.

Accepted Items

The Town of Apex curbside recycling program accepts only certain materials.

There are other options for those materials not accepted. The Wake County website is a resource for residents and businesses to use to locate organizations that recycle or dispose of unwanted materials.

Weekly Collection

Follow these tips to ensure successful recycling collection:

  • Place only household recycling in your rolling recycling cart.
  • Only items placed inside your cart with the lid closed will be collected - do not place overflow items outside of your carts.
  • Roll your bin to the curb the night before your scheduled collection day.
  • Place your garbage and recycling carts 3-4 feet apart to allow sufficient clearance for the garbage truck’s automated arm.
  • Do not bag your recycling.
  • Do not place garbage, yard waste, or other non-recyclable materials in your cart.

Please call Town of Apex Customer Service at (919) 362-8676 with any questions or concerns regarding recycling collection.

Where Recycling Goes

All recyclable materials picked up curbside from Apex residents go to a material recovery facility in Raleigh operated by Sonoco Recycling, Inc.

About the Plant

  • A majority of processed materials are turned back into products consumers use daily.
  • The facility is a 75,000 square foot single-stream processing plant, meaning the materials do not have to be separated to be processed.
  • The plant processes 12,000 tons of recyclable materials every month.
