Expansion of the Saunders Lot was the first priority out of the three current projects outlined in the Downtown Master Plan & Parking Study.
Project Background
The Saunders Parking Lot expansion in downtown Apex is now complete, enhancing both accessibility and sustainability in the heart of downtown. This project expanded the existing public lot from 240 to 392 spaces, adding 152 new parking spots to better serve residents, visitors, and downtown employees.
The redesigned lot included additional electric vehicle charging stations, tree islands, and bio-retention stormwater management features to support environmental quality.
During construction, a phased approach maintained a minimum level of parking availability to minimize disruption to downtown visitors and businesses. Additional strategies, including new parking time limits and a smart parking pilot with real-time space availability information, helped manage demand and support turnover in high-use areas.
With construction now complete, the expanded Saunders Parking Lot provides improved parking capacity, updated facilities, and enhanced user experience for all who visit downtown Apex.
