“Ablaze with Color: A Story of a Painter Alma Thomas” by Jeanne W. Harvey
In celebration of Black History Month, this project honors one of America’s most important female black artists, Alma Woodsey Thomas, an African-American artist who developed her exuberant abstract painting style after teaching art for 3 decades. Kids will love designing intricate geometric paintings on canvas, inspired by shapes and patterns from nature.

“The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss
We’ll fashion whimsical truffula trees in brightly painted pots and a mini Lorax friend, cheerful tabletop decorations which remind us to care for our natural surroundings. This is a fun mixed media project with paint, feathers, and surprises. We’ll also celebrate Dr. Seuss day (March 2) with special treats!

“The Magic Tree House” by Mary Pope Osborn
We’ll read a graphic novel version of Dinosaurs Before Dark, the first book in the beloved Magic Tree House series featuring Jack and Annie’s adventures, which invite children to find fun in learning and in exploring the world. Then, we’ll each create our own 3-D magic tree houses!
